Catherine Toews

I am an educator, artist, graphic designer, and writer based in Erie, Pennsylvania

I have been fortunate to spend the entirety of my career to date contributing to nonprofit organizations as both an employee and a volunteer. I am currently Program Director at LEAF - Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park. I have previously served as a Board of Directors member at Mentoring Artists for Women's Art (MAWA), the Vancouver Island School of Art, and the Erie Branch of the American Association of University Women; as Vice President of the Board of Directors at Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre; and as Museum Manager & Program Director at the Museum of Health Care. I have exhibited my art in solo and group shows in Pennsylvania, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honors) from the University of Manitoba.

As an educator I have delivered science, art, and yoga programs for thousands of children and families in both Canada and the USA. My teaching style encourages discovery and exploration, allowing plenty of space for experimentation and play. I love observing and sharing the outdoors with children and using nature as inspiration for hands-on creative projects. I am a certified children's yoga instructor and love to share my yoga practice with kids through story, movement, and art. I am also certified to share trauma-informed yoga & mindful practices with youth ages 3 to 18 through Yoga Ed, an evidence-based yoga curriculum which meets National P.E. and Health Standards.
