Catherine Toews

I am an educator, artist, graphic designer, and writer based in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.

I have been fortunate to spend the entirety of my career to date contributing to nonprofit organizations as both an employee and a volunteer. Multifaceted leadership roles including Program Director at LEAF - Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park and Museum Manager & Program Director at the Museum of Health Care have provided me with an opportunity to develop and utilize a diverse and far-reaching skill set that adapts seamlessly to a variety of settings and subject areas. I have served as a Board of Directors member at Mentoring Artists for Women's Art (MAWA), the Vancouver Island School of Art, and the Erie Branch of the American Association of University Women; and as Vice President of the Board of Directors at Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre. I have exhibited my art in solo and group shows in Pennsylvania, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from the University of Manitoba.

As an educator I have delivered nature-inspired art, science, movement, storytime, and yoga programs for thousands of children and families of all ages and abilities. My teaching style encourages discovery and exploration, allowing plenty of space for experimentation and play. I love observing and sharing the outdoors with the participants in my classes and using nature as inspiration for hands-on creative projects. I am a certified children's yoga instructor and love to share my yoga practice with youth through story, movement, and art. I am also certified to share trauma-informed yoga & mindful practices with youth ages 3 to 18 through Yoga Ed, an evidence-based yoga curriculum which meets National P.E. and Health Standards.
